Arguably the most talked about position battle this offseason has been the running back spot, with Dominique Brown, Senorise Perry and Jeremy Wright the leading candidates for the job.
Brown and Perry each addressed the topic with the media following practice on Aug. 21 at the practice fields of the Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex. Head coach Charlie Strong, the first one to speak following the practice session, said the offensive staff would make the decision as to who will be tabbed as the featured back.
Solidarity at Offensive Line
The Cardinals, who face Kentucky in the season-opener on Sept. 2 at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, do boast solidarity at the offensive line position.
Heading into the opener, the offensive line is likely to feature Alex Kupper, John Miller, Mario Benavides, Jake Smith and Jamon Brown. The unit, which should significantly aid the running game, had the opportunity to jell in 2011, playing a majority of contests side by side.
Anchored by Benavides, the senior will be looking to make his 35th start at center. Kupper and Smith, a Football Writers Association freshman All-American, each started 13 games on the line, while Benavides and Miller earned the starting nod 10 times.
