Video Interview: WR Coach Ron Dugans
The University of Louisville football team continued its preparations for the 2012 opener versus Kentucky with its third two-a-day practice of the fall.
The Cardinals conducted their 13th and 14th practices of the season, and will get a day off on Thursday to attend the annual Kickoff Luncheon at the Marriott Convention Center.
Louisville hit the field for a 7 a.m. practice and went a little over two hours under sunny skies. The Cardinals conducted a lot of situational work inside the red zone.
After a long break, the Cardinals were back on the field in the evening with a 5:30 p.m. practice. Going in shorts and shoulder pads, the Cardinals worked extensively on a number of third down situations.
After the morning practice, wide receiver coach Ron Dugans provided an update on the development of transfer Bryce McNeal.
“Just going through drills, you can tell that he has some ability,” said Dugans of McNeal. “He has quick feet and good hands. We have to get him out there more and see what he can do. It takes a awhile to learn the system. Every guy doesn’t learn the same. With some guys you get on the board and show them and other guys you can show them video.”
When asked if McNeal can replace the loss of Michaelee Harris Dugans said, “We have to see how quickly he can develop. Michaelee did some really good things for us. Byrce needs to get in shape. He needs to get out there and compete.”
Dugans also provided an update on Charles Gaines, who made the switch from cornerback this fall.
“He (Charles Gaines) has come along,” said Dugans. “He is starting to learn the system a little more before switching over from defense. He has to be consistent. He wants to catch all the deep balls, but I have to get him in the blocking game on the perimeter. It really just boils down to making your route look more like the picture.”
The Cardinals will hit the practice field for their final two-a-day on Friday morning at 7 a.m. before conducting another scrimmage on Saturday morning.
