Benavides Talks Expectations and Excitement for 2012

Earlier this week, senior center Mario Benavides led a trio of Cardinals representing the Louisville football program during the BIG EAST Conference media day activities in Newport, R.I. In the video posted above, Benavides, who was named to the 2012 Outland Trophy and Rimington Trophy watch lists last month, talked with reporters about the expectations around the Cardinals in 2012 and the goals for the team this season.

The Los Fresnos, Texas, native also left a terrific impression with the reporters covering the media day events. Associated Press writer Ralph Russo tweeted “Louisville OL Mario Benevides would be better analyst than 75 percent of guys on TV” after talking with him on Tuesday, while Jody Demling of Cardinal Authority/Scout.com tweeted “Mario Benavides maybe the best college interview ever for me. Wow! Kid is super smart, always has a great answer and seems like a good guy!”

Benavides and the rest of the 2012 Cardinals report to campus today to begin preseason preparations for 2012. Listed below are some key dates for fans to follow with the season-opener just a month away.
