Cardinals in the NFL – Week 5

Here we are Louisville fans, edition No. 5 of Cardinals in the NFL from ‘Inside the Huddle.’ Thirteen Louisville letterwinners saw time on the gridiron in week four. Below is a breakdown of each player and their statistics:

David Akers (San Francisco, Placekicker) – Akers again played an instrumental role in the 49ers’ victory, registering 12 points in the 48-3 win over Tampa Bay. Akers connected on field goals of 37 and 27 yards and then tacked on six extra points. Currently, he is tied for sixth in the NFL in scoring with 46 points.

Brock Bolen (Jacksonville, Fullback) – Bolen saw time as a substitution in the 30-20 loss to Cincinnati. He made one catch for four yards.

Deion Branch (New England, Wide Receiver) – Branch earned the starting nod at wide receiver in the Patriots’ 30-21 victory over the New York Jets. He made a team-high seven catches for 74 yards and scored on a two-yard pass from Tom Brady in the third quarter.

Michael Bush (Oakland, Running Back) – Bush rushed for nine yards on four carries in a limited role in the 25-20 victory over Houston.

Harry Douglas (Atlanta, Wide Receiver) – Douglas saw action in Atlanta’s 25-14 loss to Green Bay, making two catches for 16 yards.

Elvis Dumervil (Denver, Defensive End) – Dumervil earned the start at right at defensive end in a 29-24 loss to San Diego. He finished the game with three tackles.

William Gay (Pittsburgh, Cornerback) – In a 38-17 victory over Tennessee, Gay earned the start at left cornerback. He had five tackles, including one for a loss of two yards.

Breno Giacomini (Seattle, Offensive Tackle) – Giacomini saw time in Seattle’s 36-25 victory over the New York Giants.

Brandon Johnson (Cincinnati, Linebacker) – Johnson was inserted as a substitute in the 30-20 win over Jacksonville.

Amobi Okoye (Chicago, Defensive Tackle) – Okoye saw playing time in the 24-13 loss to Detroit on Monday Night Football.

Johnny Patrick (New Orleans, Defensive Back) – Patrick saw playing time as a substitute in the 30-27 victory over Carolina.

Kerry Rhodes (Arizona, Safety) – Rhodes, who earned the start at free safety in a 34-10 loss to Minnesota, finished the game with two solo tackles.

Eric Wood (Buffalo, Center) – Wood was given the starting nod at center in a 31-24 victory over Philadelphia. He was credited with a key block in Brad Smith’s five-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
